Got a great vegetable soup recipe? Enter it in the Blue C Community Garden Vegetable Soup Cookoff

Vegetable Soup in Bowl

The gardeners at Blue C Community Garden in Los Osos are challenging all comers to a vegetable soup cook off on Saturday, September 19 from 1-3pm at the garden, 1968 11th Street, Los Osos. “We thought this would be a fun way to wind down the growing season and get a little friendly competition going,” said Stacey Hunt, CEO of Ecologistics, Inc., the nonprofit that operates the community garden.

The cook-off will be judged by a panel of local chefs, including Celia Alfirevic, owner of Celia’s Garden Café, Violet and Aaron of Native Herbs & Honey, and Chris Mayes of the Baywood Ale House. Prizes will be awarded to the judge’s favorite and the audience’s favorite.

Competitors must have grown at least two of the ingredients used in their soup themselves. The soup must be vegetarian and made of organic ingredients.  You must bring at least two quarts of soup for the judges and audience to taste. Propane stoves to keep your soup warm and tasting cups will be provided. Entry fee is $8. To register for the competition, call (805) 548-0597 or send an e-mail to info@ecologistics.org.
